Maternity PhotoGraphy session - rural frederick county, maryland
I absolutely loved photographing this maternity session in rural Frederick County, Maryland. This session had been in the works for weeks. The client drove all the way from Anne Arundel County for this and scheduled a hair and makeup appointment close by in Frederick… so I guess you can say we were all set with a plan! The weather forecast leading up to the session day showed that we were going to have perfect weather–not too hot or humid for an August day. Mother nature decided to change her plans on the day of the session.
I woke up that morning to a slight chance of rain in the afternoon, which is no big deal for a summer day. But just hours before the client and I were scheduled to meet, I started getting weather alerts for potential severe weather. The client and I started messaging back and forth, worried that the possibility of rain might put a damper on what we had hoped would be a stunning day to get these special photos.
Just 2 hours before our session, a huge storm rolled through and then the sun came out. I was so relieved because in my mind “the rain is done.” Then more alerts came in about additional storms in the area. The radar showed the storm hitting our session location at the exact time we were supposed to start. Talk about anxieties!
I arrived to the location early, and suggested the client hurry every chance she could! I could see the storm clouds rolling in. She arrived early and we got started right away. Luck was on our side! We watched the storm roll in and then out, but somehow it missed us! I could not believe it. It was almost like we were in a bubble—we got to see the dark clouds in one direction and then the sun shining in the opposite. The small amount of rain that we did receive was just enough to bring pure MAGIC to our session, because we all know what happens when you mix sun and rain. RAINBOWS!!! I think we both could of cried when we saw it! Not everyone gets rainbows! This was special.
The expectant mother was magical in her own right—naturally beautiful with a great sense of style! I absolutely loved the outfit she chose, and I am so happy that she drove all this way for me to take photos. I’m pretty positive I’ll remember this session for years to come.
